These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of ExplainThis Chrome extension ("Extension", "Service", "we", "our", or "us"). By installing, accessing, or using the Extension, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not use the Extension.

By installing and using ExplainThis, you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must immediately stop using the Extension and uninstall it from your browser.

ExplainThis is a Chrome browser extension that uses artificial intelligence (specifically Groq API) to provide simplified explanations of webpage content. The Extension allows you to:

• Get explanations of entire webpages in simple terms
• Explain selected text from any webpage
• Choose from different explanation modes (ELI5, Business, Technical)
• View your explanation history stored locally on your device

2.2 Service Availability

The Extension is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee that:

• The Service will be available at all times
• The Service will be uninterrupted or error-free
• All explanations will be accurate or complete
• The Service will meet your specific requirements

The Service may be unavailable due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, or factors beyond our control.

3. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

3.1 Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for:

• Your use of the Extension and any content you request to be explained
• Ensuring you have the right to access and explain the content you submit
• Using the Extension in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
• Not using the Extension for any illegal, harmful, or unauthorized purpose
• Verifying the accuracy of AI-generated explanations for important decisions

3.2 Prohibited Uses

You agree NOT to:

• Use the Extension to violate any laws, regulations, or third-party rights
• Use the Extension to access, explain, or process content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, or violates intellectual property rights
• Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or modify the Extension
• Use automated systems or bots to abuse or overload the Service
• Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers connected to the Service
• Use the Extension to generate explanations for malicious purposes
• Impersonate any person or entity or misrepresent your affiliation with any entity

4. AI-Generated Content and Accuracy

4.1 Nature of AI Explanations

The explanations provided by ExplainThis are generated using artificial intelligence (Groq API). These explanations are:

• Generated automatically and may contain errors, inaccuracies, or omissions
• Simplified interpretations of the original content
• Not guaranteed to be complete, accurate, or up-to-date
• Subject to the limitations and biases of AI technology

4.2 Your Responsibility for Verification

You acknowledge and agree that:

• AI-generated explanations should not be your sole source of information for important decisions
• You should verify important information independently
• You should use your judgment when interpreting explanations
• We are not responsible for any decisions or actions you take based on AI-generated explanations

4.3 No Professional Advice

The explanations provided by the Extension are for informational purposes only and do not constitute:

• Professional, legal, medical, financial, or other professional advice
• Endorsement or recommendation of any content, product, or service
• Substitute for professional consultation or expert opinion

5. Third-Party Services

5.1 Groq API

ExplainThis uses Groq API to generate explanations. By using the Extension, you acknowledge that:

• Page content you request to be explained is sent to Groq's servers
• Groq's terms of service and privacy policy apply to their processing of your content
• We are not responsible for Groq's service availability, accuracy, or data handling
• Groq may have its own limitations, restrictions, or usage policies

5.2 Chrome Browser

The Extension requires Google Chrome browser to function. Chrome's terms of service and privacy policy apply to your use of the browser.

6. Intellectual Property

6.1 Our Intellectual Property

The Extension, including its design, functionality, code, graphics, text, and all other content, is protected by intellectual property laws and is owned by us or our licensors. You may not:

• Copy, modify, or create derivative works of the Extension
• Distribute, sublicense, or sell the Extension or any part of it
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the Extension
• Remove or alter any copyright, trademark, or other proprietary notices

6.2 Your Content

When you use the Extension to explain webpage content:

• You retain ownership of any content you own
• You grant us a license to process and explain the content you submit
• You represent that you have the right to submit the content for explanation
• You are responsible for ensuring you have permission to access and explain third-party content

7. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, THE EXTENSION IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO:

• WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY
• FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE
• NON-INFRINGEMENT
• ACCURACY, RELIABILITY, OR COMPLETENESS OF EXPLANATIONS

7.2 Limitation of Damages

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, WE SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

• Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages
• Loss of profits, revenues, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses
• Damages resulting from your use or inability to use the Extension
• Damages resulting from errors, inaccuracies, or omissions in explanations
• Damages resulting from decisions or actions taken based on AI-generated explanations

Our total liability, if any, shall not exceed the amount you paid for the Extension (which is currently $0, as the Extension is free).

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless ExplainThis, its owners, operators, employees, and affiliates from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, and expenses (including reasonable attorneys' fees) arising out of or relating to:

• Your use or misuse of the Extension
• Your violation of these Terms of Service
• Your violation of any law or regulation
• Your violation of any third-party rights
• Content you submit or request to be explained

9. Termination

9.1 Termination by You

You may stop using the Extension at any time by:

• Disabling the Extension in Chrome's extension settings
• Uninstalling the Extension from your browser

Upon uninstallation, locally stored explanation history will be removed from your device.

9.2 Termination by Us

We reserve the right to:

• Suspend or terminate your access to the Extension at any time, with or without cause or notice
• Modify, discontinue, or remove features of the Extension
• Stop providing the Extension entirely

We may terminate your access immediately if you violate these Terms of Service or engage in any prohibited uses.

10. Changes to Terms of Service

We reserve the right to modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify you of any material changes by:

• Updating the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page
• Posting a notice in the Extension (if significant changes occur)

Your continued use of the Extension after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to the modified Terms, you must stop using the Extension.

11. Governing Law and Dispute Resolution

These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, without regard to its conflict of law provisions.

11.2 Dispute Resolution

If any provision of these Terms is found to be unenforceable or invalid, that provision shall be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions shall remain in full force and effect.

12.3 Waiver

Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these Terms shall not constitute a waiver of such right or provision.

12.4 Assignment

You may not assign or transfer these Terms or your rights hereunder without our prior written consent. We may assign these Terms without restriction.
